Venise la rouge - Alexandre Ouzounoff
For violin, french horn and piano
Works that combine violin, horn and piano are relatively rare in the chamber music repertoire. Two major composers - Brahms and Ligeti - produced pieces that have become indispensable for this group!
Nevertheless, between the hyper-romanticism of the former and the exorbitant virtuosity required by the latter, I decided to place myself in a world of tranquility, calm and almost "naïve reverie" identical to that which one can feel in front of the lagoon of this Venetian city in northern Italy.
Of course, these two magnificent works have often rubbed shoulders with me, but almost more in order to avoid them than to be inspired by them!
That's why the influence of 17th- and 18th-century Baroque music was one of my sources of inspiration, as were certain harmonic turns. Certain brief passages may thus resemble the "Four Seasons" or a basso continuo, but never with the intention of "copying" or even suggesting these musical situations.
Dedicated to Sue-Anne Lee (Violin) - Victor Ouzounoff (Horn) and Guillaume Sigier (Piano).
