Chronos - Matthieu Stefanelli
Little Suite for Concert Band
This piece for concert band was commissioned by Nicolas Jortie and the Concert Band of the Aubervilliers Conservatory (CRR). It was composed in 2015. The title is inspired by Chronos, a deity from ancient Greece who personified Time and Destiny. It is a kind of rhythm study for orchestra. The initial musical phrase is constantly changing, not melodically, but rhythmically, metrically, and in its orchestration. Throughout the three movements and the Interlude, the performers must master the difficulties of rhythm, changes in meter and tempo, and the transitions between instruments.
