30 Melodic Studies - Philippe Liltzler
in all major and minor keys
for C/Bb trumpet or C/Bb cornet
"Rigor always overcomes the obstacle".
This sentence from Leonardo da Vinci perfectly sums up the spirit in which I wanted to write this book of thirty melodic studies.
These studies are not progressive in the true sense of the word. They are progressive in the use of all major and minor keys. I wanted, above all, to give free rein to my imagination and also to my three decades as a solo trumpet player by using small allusions diverted from the orchestral repertoire. It was, therefore, very important for me to use to the maximum the tessitura, the possible nuances of the trumpet, without forgetting the work of the phrasing, the musicality of the endurance and the sound. In short, the complete panoply of the perfect trumpet player!
Why rigor? In order to progress, one must constantly be aware of what one is producing and not be satisfied with the minimum. Each etude must be worked on, but above all interpreted. Performing the etude at the indicated tempo, thanks to the use of the metronome, will force you to surpass yourself and, after many attempts, to overcome the obstacles encountered throughout the work.
I sincerely hope that you will take as much pleasure in working on them as I did, and don't forget: "Twenty times on the job, put your work back together!
