Chants de l'aube et du soir - Cyril Achard
for soprano and guitar
on poems by Fabrice Hadjadj
Chants de l'Aube et du Soir is a lyrical duet drawing its inspiration from the French melody genre.
Despite the singular identity of the composer Cyril Achard, the inspiration of the masters is clearly perceptible through the hovering shadow of Fauré, Ravel and Poulenc, to name only the most influential.
The relationship and the search for balance between poetry and music remain a primary concern here. The requirement and the precaution granted to the choice of the author are so many signs attesting this deep will. Fabrice Hadjadj is a writer and poet of the first rank.
If the weight of tradition is present - melodies passionately following the contours of the text, the voice-instrument pairing not relegating the accompanist to a secondary role - the personal journey of the two actors cannot be dissociated from more modern and jazz influences. It is therefore natural that the musical discourse is enriched with more free and improvised sections.
The characteristic modernity of the duo reflects the artistic path of the two musicians. Opera, contemporary repertoire, song and jazz for the soprano Melody Louledjian.
As for the composer, his publications have led him to take an interest in ancient music. These musical researches are not foreign to the use of particular colorations of which the pieces are marked.
From a sound point of view, the form tends towards the extreme simplicity: a voice, an acoustic guitar.
These nine "mortal songs" celebrate the beauty and the miracle of what is born before dying out, like life, happiness, hope or lost love.
Thus, through these snapshots of musical poetry, the wide range of human feelings is expressed: like true testimonies reminding us of the extreme fragility of the world that surrounds us.
