Description

Chants de l'Aube et du Soir is a lyrical duo which takes its inspiration from the french melody genre. Despite the unique identity of the composer Cyril Achard, the influence of the great masters is clearly perceptible through the shadow cast by Fauré, Ravel and even Poulenc, to name only a few. The relation and the search for balance between poetry and music becomes the principal preoccupation here. Great detail and precaution in the choice of author are outward signs of this sincere commitment. Fabrice Hadjadj is a first rate writer and poet. If the weight of tradition is very much present – melodies closely married to the contours of the text, the voice-instrument duo does not relegate the accompanist to a second role – the personal path of the two performers is never far from more modern and jazz influences. It is therefore natural that their musical discourse is often enriched by free and improvised sections.

The characteristic modernity of the duo reflects the artistic path of the two musicians. Opera, contemporary repertoire, song and jazz for the soprano Melody Louledjian. As for the composer, his publications have lead him to be interested in ancient music, and this musical research is no stranger to the use of certain colours used in these pieces. From the point of view of sound, the form is very much turned towards a stripped down aesthetic : a voice, an acoustic guitar.

These nine «mortal songs» celebrate the beauty and the miracle of that which is born before dying out, in the image of life, happiness, of hope or of love lost. Thus, through these moments of musical poetry, a large register of human feelings is expressed : a veritable testimony which reminds us of the extreme fragility of the world which surrounds us.
