L'Océan Sonore

For her 7th recording as a leader, it is in apnea, on her personal decompression stop that Catali Antonini invites us to share her loves and states of mind.

With the connivance of Stephane Pelegri, the arrangements and compositions have been organized around her voice, her writings and with the legitimate complicity of two long-time friends, bassist Greg Theveniau (bass) and Hervé Humbert (drums). More inclined to sing in Italian and English, however, it is in French, on a text by Paul Verlaine set to music, that she chooses to express her passion for poetry and the sea with her Ocean Sonore.

Her actuality is the world's one. With Figli dell'Egeo at the opening, Poseidon is a preamble to the evocation of the Tragica Odissea of migrants and Dienda, a composition by Kenny Kirkland, will be the canvas for a text on women’s rights in Namibia.

A certain romanticism and indelible memories punctuate this year of the 13 moons, Cerco, I don’t wanna lose you, that mark the paths of life and commitments also. From her first love of soul and funk, she keeps the energy, on lyrical melodies, she poses her words there, from Bela Bartók, she also renders the original audacity of an obnubilating ritornello.

Her voice is immediately recognizable, of course, often in the lower registers, the mastered treble, her punctuations and her scat art which are so personal to her are there for this new appointment, as for these playful Short Cuts. She shares the love of a timeless jazz that speaks, that pushes hard, with a beautiful team of sensitive and inventive peerless musicians.
