Pour huit cors - Odette Gartenlaub
For french horn octet
In 1974 Odette Gartenlaub responded to a commission from the CNSM for the horn competition by composing a piece for horn and piano simply entitled "Pour le cor".
A few years later, in 2001, Patrice Petitdidier asked her to arrange it for the Ensemble de cors de l'Île de France. The score that was thus created in 2001 takes the form of an octet for horns in F lasting about six minutes, with the solo and piano parts redistributed and spatialized among the eight horn players. The more virtuosic passages, intended to make the soloist shine, have been removed, giving the Octet more density and greater unity.
