A little like Stanley Kubrick, the rarity of a new opus by pianist & composer Guylain Deppe remains an exceptional event. The quality and originality of his writing, as well as his implacable virtuosity, undoubtedly merit a hearing worthy of his immense talent.

For over ten years, Yamaha has been designing a hybrid piano that simultaneously combines the playing qualities of a traditional piano with the latest research in digital sampling, opening up new possibilities for musical expression. The N3X AvantGrand, which is suitable for all musical styles and popular with pianists the world over, has won over artists looking for a new way of playing while preserving the very essence of the piano. The fruit of a partnership with pianist Guylain Deppe is the finest demonstration of this.

If we don't let them run with this new generation of exceptional keyboards, skeptics of the evolution of the sampled piano may well bite their fingers off!

To drive "modeled" sounds through a concert grand mechanism housed in a lightweight cabinet equipped with a high-quality sound system was a daring challenge, let's face it!

YAMAHA's engineers took up this challenge, long decried by "purists", and the result is quite simply astounding! Not that these new instruments are here to replace the traditional concert grand piano, but rather to offer a lighter alternative that scrupulously respects the dynamics, touch and sound required for musical interpretation.

I'm delighted to be taking part in this new adventure, delivering these new compositions on the YAMAHA model.
